Nonexistence of Solutions In

Consider the KPP-type equation of the form ∆u+f (u) = 0, where f : [0, 1] → R + is a concave function. We prove for arbitrary dimensions that there is no solution bounded in (0, 1). The significance of this result from the point of view of probability theory is also discussed.

On Existence and Nonexistence Global Solutions of Reaction-Diffusion Equations

We consider the initial value problem for the reaction-diffusion equation ut = ∆u + f(u). In this paper we show the existence and nonexistence of the global solutions in time. Especially, we extend the condition of the nonlinear terms to more general. We have the results of the existence and the nonexistence for the equation with the nonlinear term f satisfying lim infs→0 f(s)/sp > 0 and lim su...

On similarity solutions of Zabolotskaya-Khokhlov equation

The new closed form solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional Zabolotskaya–Khokhlov equation are constructed by using the similarity transformations method via Lie group theory. The Zabolotskaya–Khokhlov equation has been reduced into a new partial differential equation with smaller number of independent variables. Further using the similarity transformations method the new partial differential equati...

Nonexistence of Positive Solutions of Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems

We discuss the nonexistence of positive solutions for nonlinear boundary value problems. In particular, we discuss necessary restrictions on parameters in nonlocal problems in order that (strictly) positive solutions exist. We consider cases that can be written in an equivalent integral equation form which covers a wide range of problems. In contrast to previous work, we do not use concavity ar...

Nonexistence of Monotonic Solutions in a Model of Dendritic Growth

A simple model for dendritic growth is given by S2d'" + 9' — cos(9). For S ss 1 we prove that there is no bounded, monotonic solution which satisfies d(-oo) = -7t/2 and Q(oo) = n/2. We also investigate the existence of bounded, monotonic solutions of an equation derived from the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation, namely y" + y = 1 y1 /2. We prove that there is no monotonic solution which satisfies ...
